Is Hypnosis Safe?

In brief yes. Hypnosis is another word for 'trance state' which is a completely safe and natural process that we as humans go in and out of all day every day e.g. Driving down a familiar road, reading a good book, watching a good film or simply just relaxing. No one can be hypnotised against their will, and even when in trance people are still in control or reject suggestions if they were not appropriate.

Can Anyone Be Hypnotised?

The quick answer is yes. Almost everyone can enter the hypnotic state using the right techniques and with a hypnotherapist they feel comfortable with. Some clients find it easy to achieve a deeper level of hypnosis enabling surgery procedures to be performed without anaesthetic. The level of hypnosis needed for most treatments is a light to mid level and is easily achieved by the majority of clients.

Will I Be Totally Unconscious?

During hypnosis EEG recordings show that you are more alert than during the waking state. There is however, a focusing of attention inwards so that outward attention becomes less, which is similar to daydreaming or to how you feel in the few seconds before you drop off to sleep. You are in a state of deep relaxation where the analytical part of your mind closes down and the unconscious mind opens up to listen and to react.

Will I Be Under The 'Power' Of The Hypnotherapist?

MOST CERTAINLY NOT - You cannot be made to do anything against your wishes or something you wouldn't ordinarily do. You retain full control throughout entire hypnotherapy session.

Will I Expose My Innermost Secrets?

Definitely Not!! Since you retain full control whilst in hypnosis you cannot be compelled to reveal anything you wish to keep secret.

Can I Get 'Stuck' In Hypnosis?

Quite simply no, it's not possible. Nobody has ever got stuck in hypnosis, in some instances people may need to be called twice simply due to their complete relaxed state of mind, no more than when dozing on the sofa after a cap nap and hearing you name called but not responding until called a second time.

Does Hypnosis Work?

Yes, Hypnotherapy is one of the safest, quickest and most effective forms of treatment for a wide range of psychological and emotional problems. Hypnotherapy fosters an attitude of independence and is able to accelerate the healing process in many physiological problems. Doctors are becoming increasingly supportive of hypnotherapy as an aid to better health. It's a non-invasive therapy and complementary to orthodox medicine.

How Many Sessions Will I Likely Need?

That depends on the issue or issues you are looking to be worked upon. Smoking cessation for example is treated in a single 3 hour session; other treatment programmes such as Phobic Response can be as few as 3 sessions, though on average most conditions are treated in 4-6 sessions. An indication of how many sessions are required will be evaluated and discussed during the initial free of charge consultation.
